👋

Hello, I’m Linda Yang

I am a junior at UCLA pursuing a major in Economics and a minor in Digital Humanities. I’m passionate about exploring the intersection between design, technology, and data, and its applications to diverse human experiences. Some areas I am currently interested in include sustainable development research, product design, and data storytelling.

Cycling in Los Angeles

After moving to LA for school, I recognized how the lack of a car greatly restricted residents’ mobility. Pairing the city’s efforts to improve public transportation through their bus and Metro systems and my growing passion for sustainability, I wanted to explore how biking fits into the picture of Los Angeles’s evolving transportation infrastructure. In this four week project, I drew from 6 data sources to create maps that explore the current state and potential future of cycling as a low-impact alternative to a car-centered metropolis like L.A.

DH101 Data Research Project

As PM, I led a team of five on a data visualization research project to investigate the relationship between food waste and food insecurity and its humanitarian implications. With DH101 being an introductory class, I guided my team in learning numerous new design and data programs. In addition, my individual work primarily consisted of the landing page and the first half of the narrative page, both in content and design.

Visualizing History's Fragments

I assisted Dr. Ashley Sanders with the digitization and publication of her book, Visualizing History’s Fragments. I worked to develop a consistent, accessible, and appealing color palette for the digital version of the book. I edited, reconstructed, and polished graphics and data visualizations to adhere to high quality publishing standards, and edited the accompanying instructional videos and ensured accessible accompanying closed captions.

StudyBreak
Mobile UXR

I collaborated with a team of four to conduct user experience research (UXR) for a mobile app, StudyBreak, which provides a platform for college students to find and share events. Our client was looking to improve the user flow and overall experience of the app, so our team utilized a variety of research strategies, including competitive analysis, user interviews, journey mapping, and usability testing. Based on our research, we identified key pain points and experimented with iterations of lo-fi and mid-fi redesigns to find more efficient and intuitive ways for users to navigate the app.

UCLA Radio Web Redesign

An ongoing project to restructure and upgrade UCLARadio.com

After conducting collaborative site critiques and user feedback, our focus for the redesign was reducing visual clutter and boosting user engagement by streamlining key content, while retaining the core elements of UCLA Radio’s brand as a creative media organization.

BruinBread Print

I created this original bear illustration as a project for the InnoD@UCLA print sale. This was my first time experimenting with Illustrator, and I had a blast exploring various vector tools to bring this little Bruin Bread to life!

BearWear Mockup

As part of a creative challenge, I designed a wireframe and mockup of a landing page for a UCLA university boutique named BearWear. In my design process, I made sure to emphasize the boutique’s specialization in limited edition UCLA merchandise and their values of community, customer service, and high quality products. I also displayed BearWear's distinct branding as an affiliate of UCLA.
